At 22 years old, Dyan Agawa is the youngest fisher in Batchewana. He owns a 46 foot commercial fishing vessel called the Little Snick and fishes out of Goulais Bay. From a young age, he began fishing alongside his Uncle Seagle (James Agawa) and Grandfather, Percy Agawa. For a few years, Dylan left fishing to try carpentry. However, his passion for fishing and deep connection to Goulais Bay led him back to the water. He feels appreciated as a fish harvester in the community and believes that fishers risk their lives every day to go out on the lake and put food on people’s tables. He is concerned that fishing is declining among young people and is passionate about getting youth reengaged in fishing as a way of life and as a part of their inheritance.
